What are your areas of risk and compliance specialism?
I have built upon a foundation within financial services and broadened my horizons to other business sectors where the same principles can be employed, with an increasing emphasis upon legal services.
What’s your background?
20 years in financial services with Barclays and Santander before becoming involved with litigation funding. I have also acted as consultant and Interim Head of Risk to organisations within a variety of industries, including an appointment as MLRO to a legal services business.
Accredited by the Academy of Experts in the area of litigation funding in 2009.
How would you describe your approach to working with clients?
The need to balance risk and reward in any business can be vital – by understanding the risks and making positive decisions about their sensitivity to them, clients can make sure that everyone within the business understands the way that they contribute rewards that take sensible risks.
This allows different team members, whether compliance, fee earners or support staff, to understand how they contribute and mutually support each other.
Delivering value to clients is essential.
What’s the most rewarding thing about your work?
The most rewarding moments are where the Risk andCompliance process can demonstrate where it really adds value to the business proposition, breaking down the “them and us” cultures which can appear.
If you hadn’t become a risk and compliance specialist what would you have done instead?
I could all too easily have become a career bank manager…
