What are your areas of risk and compliance specialism?
My areas of specialism are SRA, CLC and Money Laundering Regulations. I also deal with complaints, and give advice on compliance with the accounts rules. I deliver a lot of presentations and training courses.
What’s your background?
I have two distinct backgrounds – one in legal services, starting with the Legal Services Commission, then The Law Society / SRA, followed by the CLC. I’ve worked as an Inspector, a Technical Adviser and Senior Manager. For the last six years I have been a Consultant working with law firms across the country.
I also have a background in training, assessment and learning; having worked for a government funded training company and been a consultant at Ofqual.
I have a degree in law and masters’ degree in business (but with a legal services based dissertation). I am currently looking for a PhD in the economics of the legal services market (watch this space).
How would you describe your approach to working with clients?
I like to think I am quite friendly, relaxed, and patient. They might say different! I like to help clients find their own path to a solution. I want to give them a compliance hug.
What’s the most rewarding thing about your work?
I enjoy delivering training. I also love meeting different people in firms and hearing about what they do.
If you hadn’t become a risk and compliance expert what would you have done instead?
Become a Cartographer and gone to live in Greece.
